JJ's Tropical Troop!

John & Jen Howlett

Here we are in our 4th year participating in POAC’s annual Walkathon! As we continue to become more familiar with Autism and how it has changed our way of life, we are becoming more aware of programs, charities and support groups available to us. We are fortunate to live in a time where Autism continues to be more accepted and understood. There are many terrific non-profit groups out there determined to help the Autism community, but no one comes close to the magnitude of devotion that we personally have seen like POAC continues to do.

POAC (Parent’s Of Autistic Children) is now in it’s 20th year and continues to be a leader in providing training for parents and educators; recreational and support services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families; and training for police and first responders which is saving the lives of children with autism. To date, their Autism Shield Program has trained over 65,000 law enforcement and first responders and are directly credited with saving lives! Our whole family has enjoyed the benefit of so many free events that POAC hosts throughout the year (In 2018 alone, they hosted 320 events!)

 In 2018 the CDC determined that 1 in 59 children is diagnosed with ASD, in New Jersey, (the highest percentage in the country) it’s 1 in 34 children.
 Every 11 minutes another child is diagnosed with Autism.
 More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with cancer, diabetes & AIDS combined.
 POAC funded the first NJ program for the early detection of and intervention for children with autism.
 POAC trains thousands of police and first responders every year on how to keep our children and adults with autism safe.
 POAC provides free family recreational activities all year long including: surfing, horseback riding, movies, indoor gym days, bowling and pizza parties, and Annual FREE Family Carnivals.
 POAC is a 501©3 nonprofit organization and receives no funding from the government.

Join JJ’s Tropical Troop and come walk with us on Saturday May 11, 2019 at Fisher Middle School 1325 Lower Ferry Rd Ewing, NJ. Even if you can't join us, please consider making a donation to POAC!

We Love and Thank You!
John, Jen, Makenzie and JJ
