Hello Family & Friends!
If you know us, then you know we are POAC Family Strong: This is our 10th Anniversary as a POAC Family! We became POAC Members right after The Boy Wonder was born, shortly after Team Triplet’s 3rd birthday.
POAC has significantly changed the trajectory of our family over the past 10 years: Every year, I attend free workshops and full-day conferences to acquire expert guidance on relevant, critical topics as the boys mature; POAC effectively reaches into all corners of our home town, continuously educating our Police Department, our school staff members, and even our students; and just as importantly, our family attends free recreational events throughout the year. Alongside families like ours, these recreational events allow us to venture out safely, give us the opportunity to introduce the boys to new venues in a non-judgmental environment, and we have developed strong friendships with families just like ours. POAC is more than a service organization, it’s a community. The boys are willing to try just about anything if POAC offers it – because they know POAC will make it feel safe, respectful, and as comfortable as possible.
POAC’s Executive Team is always accessible, and the boys recognize the team and greet them at every event. Oh… you think we have a special, personal connection with POAC? We do! But we’re not special: With POAC, *EVERY* family is embraced with open arms, offered the same level of dedication, and welcomed into the POAC Family.
80% of POAC’s annual fundraising is normally generated during the months of April and May. April is Autism Awareness Month, and there is usually a large roster of POAC Walkathons across the state from April through May. With Covid-19, all of those fundraising opportunities are off the table. POAC relies solely on the generosity of donations. While all of these fundraising opportunities have been shelved, POAC’s offerings are just as critical, and POAC is just as active in their outreach efforts as ever!
We are hopeful that we’ll be able to participate in person for POAC’s walkathon, which has been rescheduled to July 19, but in the meantime, we are reaching out to ask you to participate in #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5, and we will continue to ask for your support through July 19. (#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecented need caused by Covid-19.)
We know these are uncertain times for everyone, and they are especially uncertain for Autistic individuals, including our own and those closest to us. Please consider making a donation to keep POAC operating smoothly! No donation is ever too small, any amount is welcome!
With gratitude and great love, Team Elm
